Caritas Nairobi

What We Do

Since 1973, Caritas Nairobi has walked alongside the poor and vulnerable of the Archdiocese — translating the Church's social teaching into concrete action across Nairobi and Kiambu Counties.

Across four thematic pillars and ten named sub-programmes, we address the full spectrum of human need — from economic empowerment to emergency relief — always rooted in dignity and community.

Our Mandate

Integral human development — body, mind, and spirit

Caritas Nairobi is the social development and humanitarian arm of the Archdiocese of Nairobi. We operate under the Strategic Plan 2024–2028, guided by Catholic Social Teaching and a commitment to leaving no one behind. Our work spans economic empowerment, food security, gender justice, youth development, and emergency humanitarian response — always placing the human person at the centre.

Our Approach

How we work

Our methodology is participatory, community-led, and grounded in the belief that lasting change must come from within the communities we serve.

01

Community Listening

We begin by understanding the real needs of communities through dialogue, participatory assessments, and parish-level outreach across 126 parishes.

02

Integrated Programming

We design programmes that address multiple dimensions of need simultaneously — economic, social, humanitarian — so interventions reinforce each other.

03

Capacity Building

We equip individuals, families, and groups with the skills, tools, and networks they need to become self-reliant and sustain change beyond our direct support.

04

Faith-Rooted Partnership

Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, we partner with the Church, government, civil society, and donors to multiply impact and reach the most marginalised.
