Who We Are

— Who We Are

Caritas Nairobi is the social and humanitarian development agency of the Archdiocese of Nairobi, mandated to coordinate and implement aid, relief, and socio-economic development programmes across the archdiocese. As part of the global Caritas network, Caritas Nairobi is committed to improving the quality of life of vulnerable and marginalized communities through sustainable development, humanitarian assistance, and social justice initiatives inspired by the Gospel and the social teachings of the Catholic Church.

— Our Structure

Caritas is organized at local (parish), diocesan, national, regional and international level. National Caritas organizations are each autonomous under their Bishops, but they combine as part of the Caritas Internationalis confederation, which is a body of the Universal Church.

Caritas Nairobi is registered as a charitable trust (Archdiocese of Nairobi Social Promotion Registered Trustees), whose chairman is the Archbishop of Nairobi. Governance is through a two-tiered system of Trustees and non-executive Board of Directors.

— Our Impact —

For over 40 years, Caritas Nairobi has transformed the lives of thousands of people through interventions in microfinance and self-help initiatives, refugee assistance, agriculture and food security, support for persons living with disabilities and HIV/AIDS, women and youth empowerment, peer counselling, child protection, and other community-based development programmes. Through these initiatives, Caritas Nairobi continues to strengthen the resilience and livelihoods of vulnerable communities while promoting human dignity and social inclusion.

— Where We Work

We operate within the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Nairobi, which covers Nairobi and Kiambu counties. The archdiocese is organized into fourteen deaneries, encompassing 127 parishes and numerous Small Christian Communities, through which Caritas Nairobi delivers its pastoral, humanitarian, and development programmes.
